Pizza Port Event
This event held on June 29th, 2014 was hosted by Pizza Port San Clemente and benefited 16 year-old Saylor Voris. Although she couldn't have any, Saylor had her own IPA on tap, "Saylor's IPA", which was a collaboration brew with Pizza Port and The Pint Project. Pizza Port donated $2 from each pint sold to her fund. Live music, outdoor games, a silent auction, raffle prizes, good food, and many of Saylor's friends and family helped make this event a special day for her. Be the Hero was present for a bone marrow drive and at the event we managed to get 45 people swabbed and added to the bone marrow registry for those looking for match.
About the Beneficiary:
This event benefited the Voris Family. John Voris is a Firefighter Paramedic with the City of Orange. His daughter, Saylor Voris, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia, AML, in September 2013 while a sophomore at San Clemente High. Only 5% of childhood leukemia cases in the nation are of this type.
Since diagnosis, Saylor has endured intense treatment and finally received a bone marrow transplant on February 13, 2014. After six months of hospitalization, four intense rounds of chemo, and a bone marrow transplant, Saylor came home on March 18th. While hardly considered out of the woods and cured, Saylor is home with her family to continue her treatment and heal.
